Paraíba attracts
the attention of its visitors because
of the beautiful beaches, the historic
ambiance, the authentic cultural events
and the “sui generis”
dishes.
There are approximately 140km of coast
where natural and urban beaches can
be found from North to South such
as: Cabo Branco and Ponta do Seixas,
considered the most easterly point
of the Americas (the point where the
sun rises first); Tambaba, one of
the few Brazilian Naturist beaches;
Tambaú, where the night life
is concentrated; Jacaré Beach,
with the most beautiful sunset to
the sound of Ravel’s Bolero;
the beaches of Bessa and Intermerares,
ideal for surfing, windsurfing and
kite surfing; Barra do Mamanguape
where there is a centre for the preservation
of the sea cow (Projeto Peixe-Boi
Marinho – IBAMA); the Baía
da Traiçaão Beach (Bay
of Betrayal) with the only and last
Potiguar Indians Reserve, protected
by FUNAI (the Federal institution
that looks after the Brazilian Indians
and their territories).
The state has a population of 3,305,616
inhabitants and it is the most central
of the North-east, distant between
100km and 800 km from the biggest
population centres.
Its most important urban centres are
João Pessoa - the capital of
the State and also the economic, political
and administrative centre - and Campina
Grande – the centre of another
50 towns in a place called Compartimento
da Borborema, the principal technological
centre in the North-east and also
the home of the biggest São
João in the world (São
João is a festival held in
the third week of June).
