City
tour
A tour of the main tourist attractions
in the world’s second greenest
city, including the beaches of Tambaú,
Manaíra and Cabo Branco, whose
lighthouse at Ponta do Seixas marks
the easternmost point in the Americas,
where the sun rises first. The excursion
proceeds to the historical district
of what is Brazil’s third oldest
city; including the São Francisco
area; Parque Solon de Lucena, João
Pessoa’s “picture postcard”;
“The Square of The Three Powers”;
the cathedral, the Monastery of São
Bento and the Church of Nossa Senhora
do Carmo. The return route stops at
the Paraíba Craft Market.

Beaches
of the northern coast and Cabedelo
Following the
seafront along the beaches of Tambaú,
Manaíra and Bessa, the excursion
arrives at Intermares, stopping to
visit a sea turtle nesting area. Proceeding
along the beaches of Camboinha and
Formosa, we reach the port town of
Cabedelo to visit the Fortress of
Santa Catarina and the official starting
point of the Trans-Amazon Highway.
The return journey includes a stop
for lunch (not included), with free
time for sea bathing. Don’t
miss the chance to try the region’s
wide variety of seafood dishes.

Isle
of Restinga and sunset
At the town of Cabedelo, we board
a catamaran on the banks of the River
Paraíba and sail for Restinga.
On arrival, visitors will be welcomed
with tropical fruit and will meet
the local biologist guide, who takes
the group on a 4 km historical nature
trail around the lakes and through
the mangroves to introduce the local
flora and fauna. We return to bathe
in the river whilst waiting for lunch
(optional) cooked on a wood stove.
After resting in hammocks in the shade,
we return to the catamaran to watch
the sunset from the beach of Jacaré
to the sound of Ravel’s Bolero.

A trip to the
beach of Jacaré on the banks
of the River Paraíba, with
free time to stroll along the waterfront
and visit the riverside bars, whilst
visitors get ready for the magic moment
when they pay homage to the sun as
it slips away to the sound of Ravel’s
Bolero.

Beaches
of the southern coast with Tambaba
Get ready to see a coastline dotted
with coconut palms and white sands,
exotic beaches with indígenous
names: Jacumã, Tabatinga, Carapibus,
Coqueirinho and, last but not least,
Tambaba, the only official naturist
beach in Northeast Brazil, considered
one of the ten most beautiful in the
country, with tide pools (at low tide)
and cliffs of coloured sandstone.

Picãozinho

We board a catamaran
at Tambaú for the tide pools
of Picãozinho, a true offshore
paradise, where visitors can feed
the tropical fish and enjoy a refreshing
dip in the warm, crystal-clear waters.

Isle of Areia Vermelha
Following the seafront along the beaches
of Tambaú, Bessa, Intermares
and Poço, we reach Camboinha,
where we set sail for the paradise
island of Areia Vermelha, where tide
pools form among a series of reddish
sandbanks.

Boat
trip on the River Paraíba with
Ravel’s Bolero
On arriving at
the beach of Jacaré, a boat
is boarded for a trip along the River
Paraíba, enjoying the view
of the port town of Cabedelo on the
way to the sea. After rounding the
Stuart and Andorinhas islands, we
stop at the beach of Forte Velho.
The grand finale is watching the sun
go down to the sound of Ravel’s
Bolero. There are no words to describe
just how moving this is, for the land
where the sun rises first could not
have anything but a breathtaking sunset.

Barra
de Camaratuba and indigenous reservations
Located in the municipality of Mataraca
on the northern coast Paraíba
State, between the Potiguar indigenous
reservation and the mouth of the River
Guajú, Barra Camaratuba is
one of Brazil’s most beautiful
coastal features.
After arriving at the meeting point,
we begin our “plunge into nature”,
with a boat trip along the River Camaratuba
within the natural mangrove reservation.
Soon afterwards, we return for lunch
(optional), followed by a Land Rover
trip and raft river crossing to the
indigenous reservation, where we visit
three villages, the fort of Baía
da Traição and the Kunumi
hut, including a stop to purchase
craft and finishing with a bathe in
the lake.

The
mysterious rocks of Paraíba
(old Cariri)
We depart for
the the town of Ingá, home
to the enigmatic itacoatiara rock
engravings and a museum containing
fossils of giant prehistoric animals
that lived in the region. From there
the tour proceeds to Cabaceiras, a
typical town of the Cariri region,
with houses dating from the end of
the 19th century, chosen as the set
for the recent film O Auto da Compadecida.
Following an optional lunch and short
rest at the farm of Pai Mateus, we
visit Saca de Lã and the Pai
Mateus outcrop, with its rock paintings
and exotic, mystical stone formations,
among which the Pedra do Capacete
(“Helmet Rock”) is the
most spectacular.

The
mystery and history of the Paraiba
uplands
The itacoatiaras of Ingá, the
historical town of Areia and the famous
city of Campina Grande, home to the
world’s largest Saint John festivities.
The first stop is the mysterious Ingá
to visit the itacoatiaras, huge stones
(the largest of their kind in the
world) with mysterious engravings
as yet undeciphered. Following a visit
to the museum that contains fossils
of giant prehistoric animals, such
as the giant sloth, we proceed to
the historical town of Areia, the
home of Pedro Américo, the
greatest Brazilian painter in imperial
times.
After visiting the artist’s
museum in the house where he was born;
we visit Teatro Minerva, the first
theatre in Paraíba; the forum,
built on the site of former slave
quarters; and stroll though the streets.
How about trying some genuine cachaça
straight from the sugar mill at Bar
do Chifre? After lunch, we visit Campina
Grande, including the old reservoir
and the forródromo (open-air
festival grounds), where there are
craft stores; plus the National Cotton
Research Centre, where coloured cotton
seeds have been developed using unique
technology.

Aventures at the Roncador waterfall
and Pedra da Boca
The first destination
is Pirpirituba, to visit the Retiro
sugar mill, where we’ll see
the prodcution of homemade cachaça,
molasses and raw sugar from sugarcane.
This is followed by a walk through
the banana plantation to the Roncador
waterfall for a refreshing bathe.
Through the Araruna mountain range
we reach the Pedra da Boca State Park,
where the adventure proceeds along
trails, arriving at the caves of Pedra
da Caveira and Pedra do Forno, with
optional abseiling.
